Merlion - the Singapore Mascot

The Merlion is the official mascot of Singapore. Depicted as a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. First used as a logo for Singapore Tourism Board. This iconic statue was commissioned by then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in September 15, 1972. Originally standing at the mouth of the Singapore River, it was subsequently relocated to its present position in 1997. It features a sculpture of the Merlion which is 8.6m tall, and with a fountain sprouting from its mouth.
