Wandering around Chinatown, Singapore

Some of the buildings in Singapore's Chinatown area are from the colonial and pre-war era. Many are still standing, and now refurbished to give a glimpse of the past glories.

The original houses were built by the Singapore Improvement Trust as Government quarters for customs workers, and constructed circa 1937. This three storey shop and residence is probably relocated from another premise to this location later.

The house next door is also rather interesting and quite quaint. Construction is made in a similar manner, with architectural detailing which is the same, but the houses are painted in different colours, making the street very interesting.

In contrast, a modern hotel - the Park Royal Collection stands nearby.
