Fullerton Hotel and surroundings

Playing tourist one Saturday morning, walking around the vicinity of the Fullerton Hotel, a high end hotel in the central business district. This is an interesting building, as it started life as the General Post Office of Singapore. The Fullerton Building was named after Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the Straits Settlements (1826–1829), and was commissioned in 1924 as part of the British colony's centennial celebrations.

The photograph below shows the Fullerton on the right, with the Cavenagh Bridge in the foreground. And in the distance is the new Esplanade Theaters and the Marina Bay civil district.

My own history with it was when I was working for a big IT multinational, and we had to install a mainframe computer. The lifts which had been retrofitted after the building was completed were too small to fit the huge computer. The only solution was to open the roof and crane the machine in from the opening. Interesting project. The photograph below shows the driveway, and where we parked the huge 150 Ton crane. In the background, the Victoria Concert Hall is visible.

A working postal box for depositing mail is still found in the building.

But the once staid civil service offices and GPO main lobby is now converted into a grand hotel. On the entrance right and left are huge atriums and cafes.
