Hong Lim Food Centre

These two photographs were taken on April 13, 2020, during the Singapore Circuit Breaker period, where a semi-lockdown of the island was enforced. We were still allowed to go out to buy food and daily necessities, but dining-in was not allowed. This was done to ensure proper social distancing and to break the local transmission chains of COVID-19.

Both these photographs were taken during a visit to takeaway food for lunch.

The first is a Michelin mentioned stall selling the local delicacy of Char Kway Teow. This stall is a favourite among locals, and often attract queues of more than 20 or 25 people who wait patiently in line for their food, which may take up to 45minutes or more.

The second is also a very popular stall offering curry noodles with fried chicken cutlets and yong taufu. The angle chosen is to emphasize the claustrophobic nature of these tiny stalls which the hawkers often spend upwards of 12 hours a day within.
